Carrie walked up to John, hands behind her. Her face glowed with glee. A wide grin and plenty of giggles made John a bit nervous, though very curious. "Well, here we are!" Carrie drew her prizes out from behind her in a garish flourish of grey and brown latex.
"Uhh..." John stammered and scratched his chin. "What exactly are those supposed to be?" Carrie's grin faded a bit, but not fully as she realized her outstretched hands held a mass of unrecognizable folds of latex.
But not to have such a damper last, Carrie dropped one and shook the costume, fully revealing it for a moment. Mostly grey, with a bit of pink, a belly, John saw. And a pink tail. And large ears. "A mouse!" John cried out and grin beginning on his own face. His new wife smiled back, pleased.
John watched as Carrie took up the other costume and did the same outlandish shake, the cartoon world pulling the arms, the legs and the head gently out for a full view. This one was dark brown, accented by a lighter brown belly. But what really drew the attention was the head and a full rack of...antlers? "Ah! An reindeer." John laughed. "Ah wonderful!"
A mouse and a reindeer. It brought back memories of a magical date during Christmas they'd had. It was one that day that John truly knew he was in love with Carrie. The newly weds both now had grins you couldn't wipe away with industrial cleaner.
A cough interrupted the two, the costume shop owner seemed to appear out of nowhere. John blushed deep red and turned a way. Carrie never dimmed. "Good choice, you two, good choice. Now, if I may suggest a great little spot for you?" Carrie nodded. "There's a small secluded town up in the mountains, it celebrates Christmas and other winter holidays all year around. You two might enjoy that immensely. You can even get a cozy little cottage."
Carrie looked at John, who simply shrugged. It was Carrie's decision.
