Jen's eyes flickered open, as she look at the ceiling. Wait a minute-it looked more like the ceiling of a cave, with stalactites pointing down from the rocky hard surface. In fact, the entire room looked like a cave, with the only light coming from a strange luminous fungus growing on the walls. Yet Jen could see as clearly as she could in broad daylight.
The cave-room was certainly well furnished, with the bed, a cabinet, and a closet carved into the cave-wall. Jen removed the covers from the bed, and looked down at her body.
It looked smaller than she was used to, yet taught and supple, like a gymnast. Jen also saw her complexion was a strange, purple blue ebony. Instead of her usual pajamas she was dressed in a revealing dark negligee.
There was a mirror on top of the cabinet. Jen got out of bed, walked over, and looked at her reflection.
The face staring back at her was strange, with the same complexion as the rest of her body. Her eyes were almond shaped and glowed red; her face was very narrow with a pointed chin. Her blond hair was gone; in it's place was a thick mane of white that cascaded down her back almost to her knees. And her ears-they were long, pointed ears, not the round ears of a human.
Jen touched them, then she remembered. She knew she was Jennifer Smith, teen-aged daughter of a well to do American couple and cheerleader. But she also knew she was Jen Ef'ershmit, fifth daughter of Matron Mother Maya of the House of Ef'ershmit, the eighth leading house in Ezzborat the third city of the drow. The Dark Elves of the Underdark.
