Jennifer managed to make it to her first class, Natural Science, right on time, sitting down as the bell rang. Good thing, because Mr. Finnigale didn't allow latecomers to enter at all, and also never gave make-up exams. She had sneezed a few more times on the way over here, and her nose was starting to run. It was obvious she wasn't going to be able to ignore this. She took a quick stock of her changes so far:
Her ears were now on top of her head and had fur on them. She could move them around easily, and was doing that unconsciously.
Her fingernails were not somewhat curved, and felt kinda sharp. The skin on her palms and fingertips felt thicker.
The hair on the backs of her hands and on her lower arms had become darker. About half way to the elbow, they changed to red.
Her nose looked darker, and might be sticking out a bit more, but she hadn't had time to look in a mirror.
That was all she could see so far. The strange part was that nobody seemed to notice, or at least care. Maybe there was something to that legend about the town curse after all...?
Curse or no curse, it was test time. And nothing, especially not some slip of paper made by some teacher in one of the easiest subjects the school had, was going to make her lose the cheerleading position she'd worked so hard for. She'd studied the material, more or less. She sneezed as the Mr. Finnigale was handed to her. He just looked at her, narrowing his eyes while he said, "I trust you won't be a disruption to my other students, Miss Smith. I'd hate to know they got sick because of you..." Jennifer just looked at him sheepishly. She wasn't paying attention to what he was blathering about now, she was wondering what changed this time.
45 minutes, four sneezes, a Kleenex, and one throbbing headache that wouldn't go away later, Jennifer had made short work of the problems before her. She sat in her chair, doodling in the margains while wondering how she could get revenge against that twerp Kyle. The sound of a meterstick hitting a blackboard exploding in her new ears startled her, which caused her to drag her pencil across a perfectly good drawing of quarterback Brad McKennis. Brad, which had somehow developed pointy ears and a black nose in her doodle. Oh yes, Kyle would have to pay for this. "Tests are due now. Put down your pencils or you will receive a grade of zero."
Jennifer sneezed once again as she handed her test in, absentmindedly wiping her nose with the back of her hand and beiong suprised when she felt a lot more hair than she was used to.
