Ocean sometimes bemoaned the hippy name that his folks had given him.
This was especially so after his kid brother John was named. He was
happy his folks had given John his "normal" name, but sometimes he was
jealous of him too. Still there were advantages to having a semi-
unique name - Ocean had only met one other kid with his name though
Google said their were actually thousands.
Anyway, today his brother was being particularly annoying.
"John, I need to take a shower. I've got a date in 30 minutes," Ocean
said entering the bathroom.
John was kneeling by the half full tub wearing rubber gloves with a
plastic box next to him.
"You can't be cleaning the tub, so what are you doing?" Ocean
continued adjusting his towel which he could feel coming loose around
his waist.
"I'm priming my new Terrarium Transformation Stone," John answered.
"Priming?"
"Yes, the instructions said to activate it, I needed to put in a bath
of hot water."
Ocean laughed, "Well, I think they just meant to soak it in hot water.
You could've used the sink. Do you know how many gallons are in that
tub? Not very enviromentally sound thinking, bro. Let's see that
rock taking the rock out of the tub."
"The instructions said to wear rubber gloves to avoid getting damaging
oils from hands on my terrarium components," John scolded.
"Dude, this is just a rock. Besides I'll wash it off, while I take my
bath. No need wasting good water," Ocean said stepping into the tub
still wearing his towel. Standing in the water, he dropped the rock
into water by his feet, and pushed John away from the tub. "Now I've
only got 25 minutes to get bathed and get ready for my date. I can't
believe she's going as mermaid. She wants me to go as her human
prince and wear purple tights! Maybe I can think up an appropriate
alternate costume while I soak in privacy in the tub. Now scoot, and
hang my towel up as you leave," he added. Ocean whipped the towel from
around his waist and threw it in John's face.
John said, "Ew!" He put the towel on the rack and scooped up his
terrarium and bolted from the bathroom, as Ocean sat down into the hot
water.
As he closed the door behind him, John heard Ocean say, "Maybe I'll
just wear a swimsuit."
John muttered, "Big brothers." He shook his head.
He continued to assemble his terrarium. He glanced at the clock 20
minutes had elapsed. His terrarium was ready except for the
transformation stone. Ocean couldn't still be in the tub. John
chuckled as he remembered that Ocean tended to fall asleep in the tub
while he was soaking. Still Ocean would probably blame John if he was
late, and Ocean really wanted to complete his terrarium and to do that
he needed the rock.
He headed to the bathroom door, and tried the knob it was still
unlocked. He pushed the door open, and stepped inside...
To the person who decided to post a comment as a reply: There is no age stated in any previous chapter and even if John is 21 he would still be a kid brother to someone older... Also, The master's degree given to the youngest recipient was to someone at the age of 14.
