The next day, I made a call to Dr. Von Hauser's office. I wished myself to be able to imitate her voice, and told her receptionist that "I" was sick and wouldn't be in
that day.
Dr. Von Hauser had slept under my bed that night, after I'd taken her for a walk. When she had finished her business (no, I didn't look), I told her to stay quiet so
my mother didn't find her. Otherwise, well, Dr. Von Hauser just might as well get used to doghood.
When I got up the next day, I wished to be the 10th caller on a radio call-in money contest. That gave me more than enough to take Dr. Von Hauser to Costello's.
I gave the groomer-vet the money and instructions. Then I left to have breakfast.
When I came back two hours later, Costello came out.
