"So... what's this?" Nancy said crossly, her brow furrowed and eyes narrowed. She pulled Todd's coat tighter around her body, feeling distinctly violated.
"It's... nothing!" Todd said quickly. "Can I have it back?"
The brunette raised an eyebrow and clutched the remote in her hand, looking down at it cautiously and then looking back at Todd. "I am not the smartest woman in the world." She glared. "But I am not stupid. And this..." She held up the remote. "Is not nothing."
Todd gulped. He eyed his remote nervously. The game was done now. It had turned dangerous. How could he have been so stupid?!
"Furthermore!" Nancy raised a finger in the air. "When you suddenly grow proportionately larger in size - a scientific impossibility - and then suddenly shrink back to normal, the impossible but obvious explanation is this supposed nothing I'm holding in my hand."
Todd was now looking at the floor in guilt. She was right.
"I'm also aware of who you are, Todd Mason, and your reputation for odd hobbies. So... my question for you now, is..."
Todd winced. Here it came. She was about to turn him into a frog or something.
"Why didn't you just ask first?" Nancy finished, and giggled.
Todd looked up from his expectations of doom and blinked. He adjusted his nerdy glasses and stared dumbfounded as Nancy placed the remote back in his hand and smiled warmly.
Todd blinked again. "You're... joking?"
"No." Nancy smiled wider. "Maybe I liked getting all big and tall. Maybe I'm wondering what else you can do with that little magic box."
Todd's expression brightened. "Really? Because a cooperative test subject would be much more useful than..."
Nancy leaned forward and pressed her finger to his lips. Silence. Todd stopped in mid sentence, somewhat taken back.
Then, she spoke.
