As Mr Johansson yammered on and on about some event that had happened in American history and how it effects in Britain, Vicky idly drew on her notebook, only half paying attention.
In front of her, Tiama...an anthropomorphic fairy dragon...was busy taking notes, while at the same time passing notes back and forth to her girlfriend Erica...an anthropomorphic mouse. Sighing, Vicky looked down at the doodle she had been fooling with and thought, "Why can't I be as happy as those two?"
Looking up, she watched as the teacher shifted to a new slide, while in front of her Tiama giggled about something that Erica had wrote. And then, in the briefest of instants...happening so fast Vicky wasn't even sure it happened...Tiama shifted and something flew toward Vicky.
Shifting back, afraid that the girl in front of her opened her wings suddenly, as had happened once before when some stupid jock had surprised the dragon-girl, Vicky waited for the pink wings to suddenly engulf her like they had before. Instead, Tiama silently giggled about something and then bending her neck forward, she began to write.
Wondering, "What was that about," Vicky looked down at her scribbling, intent on continuing to draw what she had started shortly after class had begun.
To her surprise, she found a folded piece of paper sitting on her notebook. Wondering if Tiama had passed this to her, Vicky picked it up and considered throwing it away. "After all," she reasoned. "It probably only contains something really silly and something girly. That, or some harsh remark about me."
Staring at the note, Vicky reached down for her backpack and then shoving the note inside, she decided to look at it later.
------
Dropping her pack on the floor, Vicky kicked off her shoes, knowing that her mother was still at work and probably wouldn't be home until later. Wondering what she should have for dinner, Vicky picked up her backpack from where she dropped it and headed for her room, passing her brother on the way up.
Inside, she sat down at her combination desk and vanity and thought about doing the homework assigned. After a bit, she heaved a sigh and reaching into her pack, thinking, "Might as well start on the history homework," and instead withdrew the note from within.
Staring at the folded piece of paper, she suddenly remembered Tiama's strange movement..."If it had happened at all," Vicky thought ruefully...and then briefly considered crumpling up the paper and tossing it into the dustbin beneath her desk. Instead, curiosity getting the best of her, Vicky unfolded the note and began to read the printed text.
After reading it for a third time, she tossed the note onto the desk, thinking, "This has to be a joke."
In the next room over, she could hear her brother entering and then turning on his radio. Picking up the note, she thought, "A piece of paper that can grant wishes? This has to be some type of joke...that or one of those silly quizzes that is supposed to determine what type of person you are."
Tossing the note back onto her desk, Vicky reached down and pulled out her history notebook, figuring she would at least make a start on it.
But for some reason, she couldn't keep her mind on the work and she found herself looking more and more at the note. After a bit, she pushed the book aside and picked up the note. Rereading the text, she set it on the desk and thought to herself, "One wish, huh? If I were to wish for something, what would it be?"
Leaning forward, she tapped her pencil on the paper, thinking, "It would definitely have to be detailed, no doubt about that. But what would I wish for?"
After several minutes had elapsed, Vicky suddenly had an idea. Placing pencil tip to paper she wrote:
I wish that I would slowly turn into a boy...and not one of those boys who is into sports and can be considered a dumb jock...but not one of the boys who is over the top smart is considered to be a geek or nerd. Someone who falls in between.
Someone who has a mild passing interest in some sports, but not enough to get them to engage in them. Someone who is intelligent, but not enough to actually be considered to be a geek or a nerd...a person passing classed mostly on Bs and once and a while and A. Just your average type of boy, who has some interests in the fairer sex.
As stated before, this would be a slow change. And to offset this change, someone who wants to be a girl would slowly turn into one. This person, and I, would be aware of what was happening, but wouldn't be bothered. This person, and I, would be aware of the changes, but the world around us would think nothing of them as they occurred.
This is my wish...if this is for real...please make it happen.
Looking at what she had written, Vicky went back over it. After rereading it yet again, she erased a few things and rewrote them, all the while trying to tighten up what she had written, making sure that nothing could be misinterpreted.
Tossing aside the pencil, she asked herself, "Why am I even bothering? This is just someone’s idea of a practical joke," and folding the note up, she tossed it aside, failing to see it slide off the back of the desk and catch somewhere between the backing and the wall.
Pulling her textbook back toward her, she began to read the assignment, bothered only slightly by a strange feeling in her abdomen.
