Kendra was having a good time in the pool. The itch was gone and she had a feeling of freedom. She knew that it couldn't last however and that she would have to get out. She needed to return to class and the chlorine would start to bother her soon. She came up and saw Lisa Hornick standing by the pool. Mr. Mathews must have sent Lisa to see what was taking her so long in the restroom. But how come she was here? It mattered little as she had now seen her transformed. What was she going to do?
Lisa squatted down and said, "I thought I'd find you here. You'd better hurry and get out and changed back before someone comes in."
"What?" Kendra asked in a state of shock.
"Hurry up Kendra," Lisa said her voice sounding urgent. "I know you had to transform and it's very nice to swim but anyone could be here any second and we don't want to try to explain why you're a mermaid. I don't think that we could."
"Did Mr. Mathews send you to check on me?" Kendra asked pulling herself out with Lisa's help.
"He did and he'll be starting to wonder where we both are," Lisa said producing a towel and helping to dry Kendra off.
"Did you look for me in the restroom?" Kendra asked slightly nervous. If Lisa had come straight here to look for her then she must have known something.
"I came straight here," Lisa said handing Kendra her clothes.
"How did you know?" Kendra asked freezing.
"You didn't look too well and you were scratching your legs," Lisa said looking around like a frightened rabbit. "We need to get going and get you to the restroom without being seen. We'll say that you're ill and need to go home."
"My mom's out of town today" Kendra said.
"Ok you'll come with me to my home," Lisa said. "Now transform back into a human before someone comes."
"How do I know I can trust you?" Kendra asked starting to transform back finally. Her tail split while her fins formed her feet. The ends of her fins separated and turned into toes. Her scales melted into her skin leaving ever shrinking patches until there was no trace of them left. She was human again.
Lisa had waited until Kendra had fully transformed back before lifting up her dress. Kendra saw patches of pink scales raise from Lisa's skin and spread before reversing leaving her legs. Lisa dropped her dress and said, "Because I'm a mermaid too. Now get dressed."
Kendra complied and she was soon dressed and the two of them were heading towards the restroom. Fortunately they didn't meet anyone on the way and there was no one in the restroom. Lisa looked at Kendra's face and said, "Good. You still look ill."
"You don't look so good yourself," Kendra said with a smile.
"That's good," Lisa said with an answering smile. "Now we just have to go to the nurse and tell her that we're both sick."
"But we're not sick," Kendra said her smile fading.
"Kendra you just spent the last several minutes with your head over a toilet," Lisa said holding a hand to her head. "I'd call that being sick. I know you don't want to admit it and want to stay in school. I do too but we are sick."
"You two are sick?" a voice Kendra recognized as being Monique's asked.
"I'm afraid so," Lisa said slumping against a wall. "Could you go tell Mr. Mathews that we're going to the nurse and then we'll be going home. Also someone needs to bring us our bags."
"Ok I'll tell Mr. Mathews," Monique said as she turned around. "I hope you two get to feeling better."
"That was a bit too close," Lisa said breathing a sigh of relief once Monique was gone. "She didn't overhear much and the way we look right now we do look sick. So it's off to the nurse now."
"Ok," Kendra said as she followed Lisa out the door and down the halls.
