Amanda and Maddi talked amongst themselves for a bit and then after a bit, Maddi said, "Okay...but the choice of growing older or younger must be agreed upon with a flip of a coin."
Nodding, thinking this was sensible, I then asked, "So what type of competition are we going to engage in?"
Amanda looked at Maddi and me and then stated, "No races involving running. The two of you clearly have an advantage over me in that field."
Maddi and I both nodded and the three of us began to discuss what it was we should do. As we talked amongst ourselves, we took our conversation indoors and sat down for breakfast. And as we ate, Amanda asked for the medallion and when I gave it to her, she immediately said, "I wish, for the three of us...Maddi, Stephanie and me...that everyday would be a Saturday and it would be a nice summer day...at least until we are finished using the medallion."
A flipping noise and turning in the direction of the sound, I watched as the calendar on the wall shifted to July and all the days grew X's over them until every day up until the thirteenth, a Saturday, was crossed out.
Next to the calendar, the thermometer shifted its digital numbers until it read a cool ninety two point seven degrees. Turning back to the table, I retrieved the medallion and put it back into my pocket. As I did so, Maddi said, "How about a race using our roller-blades? Neither one of us has a real advantage over anyone using them."
Looking at Amanda, we both nodded in unison. Finishing our breakfast, I announced that I was going home to get a shower and would collect my roller-blades and meet them at the park.
Telling me, "See you then," I leashed Duchess and headed for home, thinking only about what the possible outcome of our next race.
