Slowly consciousness swam its way back to you and blinking, you realised that you are lying on your bedroom floor, while somewhere nearby you can hear your mother arguing with somebody.
Stretching, you sit up and then stand up...and then are surprised you are doing so on two legs instead of four. Looking down, you nearly scream out loud, but instead you thought, "No, no, no," over and over as you move out of the room and toward the bathroom.
Inside you shut the door and flicking on the light, you climb atop the sink and peering into the mirror, you take in the reflection before you.
Reflected back is an anthropomorphic fox girl of about four years of age, standing about three foot three. Soft looking yellow fur covers her body, except for the hands, feet, snout, front torso, tip of the tail and part of the ear which has white fur covering it. Touching the tip of your slight snout, you instead reach down to confirm that you are indeed looking at a girl and then moment your hand touches the area between your legs, you pull it back in alarm.
Looking at your hand, taking in the three fingers and thumb that are covered with white fur, you look down at the white-furred, digigrade feet. Tail twitching, you thought to yourself, "This is not what I wanted at all," and sliding of the sink, you flick off the light and exit the bathroom.
Heading back toward your room, you close the door and sitting down on the floor, you thought, "Enough is enough. This is not what I wanted," and then closing your blue eyes, you begin to concentrate on trying to remove the costume.
To your surprise you find your attempts both blocked and thwarted by something. And the more you try, the more you come to realise that what was stopping you was the fact that whatever magick had been performed stuck you permanently in this form and you are unable to transform back. Wanting to cry out by the lack of change, you open your eyes and standing, you are about to exit the room, when you notice that your closet door is open.
Walking over to it, you peer in and what you saw made your day there and then. Deep inside the closet, you looked at rows upon rows of costumes and exploring further, you realised that you could change yourself if you wanted.
But before you could make any decision, a knock on your door and turning, you saw your mom entering. Squatting down before you, she smiled a sad smile and then explained, "You probably know what has happened by now..." and when you simply nodded in reply, she continued by explaining, "Magnus said there is some other magick at work and thinks that it has something to do with the spell you read about a year and a half ago."
Taking a deep breath, she sat down and then drawing you close in a hug, she told you, "Unfortunately, he cannot return you to human form, explaining this is the best he can do. He also explained that people will accept your presence and how you look without question...I am just upset that I cannot have my youngest daughter back as a human."
A quiet sob from your mother and thinking about the closet full of costumes, you wonder if maybe you should just accept your fate at what you have become. A movement and you realise that your mother is standing and looking at her, you listen as she told you, "Come on...Let's get you and your sister dressed and then we'll go out for breakfasts. How's that?" and then she extended a hand out to you, waiting for you to take it.
After a moment, you take the offered hand and allowed yourself to be led out of the room. As you do so, your mind flipped back and forth between, "Try on another costume," and "Forget the costumes and learn to live my life as is."
