Hannah made her emotional goodbyes to her parents outside the Regeneration Centre, hugging her parents and only just holding back tears. Her mother promised to made sure they made regular visits to the farm she was scheduled to be sent to.
She entered the reception knowing that in a few hours, she'd no longer be a woman. Looking down at her long slender legs, she swallowed hard. How many times did she order salad to keep slim? All in vain; soon she'd be fattened up, made to sleep in a muddy sty.
"Hi, I'm Hannah Woods, I've got an appointment today."
"Ah yes," replied the secretary. "Please take a seat Ms. Woods, Dr. Morton will be with you in a moment." Hannah moved back towards the seating area.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot!" The nurse stood up, holding out a small tag in her hand. Hannah tentatively took it from her, uttering a thank you. Written on the label were her current details and future species type. "I feel sick...", she muttered under her breath.
The waiting room was full of others just like her. Young men and women waiting to lose their humanity. Hannah noticed the girl next to her had a tag round her wrist too, although it appeared she was going to become some kind of cat. Hannah was immediately jealous. She was not however so envious of the girl on the other side of her; a very beautiful girl, slightly older than Hannah, with radiant blonde hair. Her tag showed that she was soon to be a tuna fish. Hannah fidgeted uncomfortably and was briefly relieved she was to be a pig.
A double-door next to the reception desk opened and a nurse peered out from the corridor beyond it. "Ms. Woods?" She said. Hannah was up.
