Susan ran alone down the jogging path in the park, looking for all
intents and purposes like nothing more than a woman out for an evening
jog. Of course, that was what she wanted it to look like. It was all a
part of her routine.
Her hair was pulled back into a pony tail, the brown knot hanging just
above the nape of her neck. She was tall and wiry, clad in nothing
more than a black sports bra and a pair of thin black jogging shorts.
Her toned muscles flexed as she ran; clearly she was in shape.
She ran one circuit of the jogging path, and then a second, this time
increasing her pace. She smiled as she passed a man on the path for
the second time. It was a confident smile. She increased her pace
again, feeling more energy surge through her the darker that it got,
and she felt a thrill of the other energy go through her as she passed
him again. She glanced skyward, spotting the full moon rising in the
sky, and knew that she had one more, perhaps two more circuits left
before the change overtook her. It wasn't something she was looking to
avoid; rather she relished this moment, that sacred point where she
was both simple Susan Downing, and something far more powerful. She
loved these nights where there was another human around; it always
left an element of chance to her evening. Would she hunt? Would she
mate? Would they simply go their separate ways? She couldn't help but
glance skyward again, her heartbeat quickening reflexively. It was the
random that seemed to make nights like these all the more special.
