I couldn't just let my mom be a dog, although I had no problem keeping Ms. Barnes as a cat. She was pretty hard on mom, threatening to fire her. Maybe I'd keep
her as a cat for a little while longer. But mom I had to change back, so I closed my eyes and thought of mom as she was.
"I wish mom was back to normal." I said and when I opened my eyes the Golden Retriever had started to take on more human characteristics. Her body began to
enlongate and the thick golden fur began to retreat back into her body. I could see the human intellect come back into her eyes and maybe a little anger. Not that I
couldn't understand it if she was. It's not exactly the most dignified of positions to be in.
Her nose and mouth moved back into position as the snout became a human face. She was still on all fours though, even when the front and hind legs became
hands and feet. The only thing was that she was also naked. Oh yeah, she was gonna be pissed.
When she finally became totally human and realized her nakedness, she scrambled for her clothes and covered her body with them.
"Joe. What's going on? What did you do?" she said trying to hide her body from me.
"Mom, I can explain....'
She stopped me in mid sentence. "You can explain when I get some clothes on."
"Okay mom."
The cat that used to be Ms. Barnes came up to me and rubbed her body against my leg. I reached down and pet her and scratched under her neck. This was the
friendlist she's been so far.
"Where did that cat come from? she asked as she zipped up her skirt.
"That's something I have to explain too."
Mom looked at me in a strange way, like I was some kind of evil magician. "Oh, is that...?
I nodded.
"Tell me. From the beginning."
I told her the whole story and what I did to Ms. Barnes. That part she didn't get angry at. She did get angry when I told her she was a Golden Retriever. As I said,
she was well within her rights. But there was an underlying cautiousness in her tone, like if she made me too angry, I wish her into the cornfield like in that Twilight
Zone episode. But I know I wouldn't do that, not on purpose anyway.
" I can't believe that this is Lucy Barnes," mom said as she petted the cat who was now on her lap. She gave the cat a half playful/half angry tug on her neck and the
cat looked up at her angrily. "What are we going to do with her and with you."
"With her, I think we should change her back but not here. and with me; well it was an honest mistake. It's not like I'm used to turning people into things."
My mom's face softened and she kissed my forehead. "Okay Joe. You're right. We need to take of this cat first."
"Okay mom. We'll bring back to the office and change her there."
"Sounds like a plan."
