Thinking this was the best plan, Dan asked the dog when he thought Kat might return next. The dog, sitting down on his haunches, stared upward at the moon. After a bit, Duke replied, "I don't know. But I'll be waiting here with you until she shows up."
Nodding at this, Dan began to pace back and forth, agitated about the prospect of having to wait it out in a pigs body until she could exact some form of revenge.
Outside the pen, Duke stood and then said, "Gets some sleep. And don’t worry. I shall always be near-by." and then turning, he dashed off into the night, leaving Dan alone to watch his retreating tail, wondering how long she'd have to wait.
Lying down on the straw, bored out of her mind, Dan stared up at the starry night, finding at least one thing enjoyable, even though she was a sow and slowly losing her mind to her current form.

She must have fallen asleep, but she didn't know when because the next thing Dan knew she was waking up to the sound of the farm girl banging on a bucket and then pouring fresh slops into the trough. Watching her walk away, Dan sighed and then resigned herself to eating the mess, telling herself, "It's only until Kat shows up and I can get the amulet."

Days blended together and Dan had no real way of telling how much time passed. Duke showed up once and awhile, but his visits soon began to become less and less frequent, until finally he simply explained, "I will be near-by in case your sister shows up," and then simply vanished.
Meanwhile, Dan was slowly losing herself more and more to the sow, wanting nothing more than to do the sort of things a sow would normally do; eat slops, lay about in the mud and move in doors if it became too hot or too cold out.
Then one morning, a familiar laugher awoke Dan and stepping outside the barn, Dan saw Kat. Pretending not to recognise her, Dan chose to act like the normal sow and remain skittish around this new comer.
Seeing this, Kat laughed even harder and then explained, "You must be in hog heaven Dan. Why, you don't even recognise me, do you?"
Aware that for some reason everything was frozen, but still watching Kat with wary eyes, Dan wondered if the dog would even be able to move, let alone get the necklace. In front of the pen, Kat got an evil look in her eye and then announced, "Maybe I should summon a nice boar for you to have sex with?"
Unsure if it was the right thing to do, Dan charged the fence. And just as he was about to hit the boards, Kat leapt away, laughing, telling Dan, "No, no. That's a naughty pig."
Pacing back and forth, still casting a wary eye on Kat, Dan thought she saw movement, but decided not to focus on it. Grunting, she paced back and forth, while Kat continued to talk about the fun Dan would have mating with a boar. Seeing an opening, and that the movement was actually Duke, Dan charged at the fence once more.
As predictable as ever, Kat jumped back just before Dan hit the boards. As Kat jumped away, Duke leapt upward, going for the necklace. As he did so, Kat spun around and muttered something, freezing Duke in midair.
Turning back to Dan, she cried out, "You think I am stupid. That I wouldn't notice Duke or that you were playing dumb for me. I'm your sister. I know you better then you think, Dan."
Sighing, she flickered her wrist and Duke flew through the air and then splattered into the mud next to Dan. Realising that she was frozen, Dan listen with horror as Kat told her and Duke, "Jen and I were aware of your plan all along. And when Jen gets here, we're going to have fun with the two of you."
And then Kat began to pace back and forth outside the pen. As she did, she listed off animals she would suggest Dan and Duke be turned into, since it was clear the sow and dog forms weren't working out.
