"The first thing we need to do" Astara began "is to summon another Ninjatta."
Oh no, Dana thought. The ritual to create and feed Ninjatta was the thing that made her gladdest to be a demon, since demons don't sleep, and the sight of Ninjatta devouring her own mother would have given her nightmares for years. But the ultimate horror was Astara's expression of delight as she watched the whole thing. Dana knew that the demon princess had even made a DVD of it.
"There's more than one of those things?" Dana asked, stunned and a little sickened.
"Yes, but bringing them in from the deep hell dimensions is an enormous amount of work, which is why I don't do it very often. Someone on that girlworld is going to learn the meaning of the word "torment." Dana had never seen Astara so angry.
"We need someone with the strength to carry a Ninjatta outside deep hell." Astara had moved from furious to calculating. "We also need to reevaluate that girlworld. Clearly they have some kind of powerful magical defenses." She turned to Dana and gave a ghastly grin. "Get packed, sweetheart. You're going on a roadtrip."
"What?" asked Dana.
"They're going to be prepared for a Ninjatta, but how about a nice girl who's just curious?"
"You want me to go there?"
"Oh, unless you want to assist me in the Ninjatta ritual. It may be a little gruesome this time." Astara smiled, and Dana knew her revulsion at the Ninjatta ritual was no secret from her demonic mistress. "You can transform yourself to pass for human, and frankly, dear, you're still innocuous enough not to set off magical triggers, I hope. Go, find out what's going on, report back."
