"I'm sorry Clare, I couldn't do anything" Said the dog sitting on the bed.
"Matt?!" Clare said, shocked that the dog was speaking, and equally shocked that she was aswell. "What the hell is going on?"
"I can answer that my dear." The stranger said kneeling down to pet Clare. Clare moved backwards but his hand reached her head, and not knowing what to do she simply stood her ground. "You see your boyfreind there made a bet with me. He won and took away everything that was dear to me. This is my revenge on him. But I couldn't have him suffer by himself, oh no. It was much more fun to watch him squirm as the person most precious to him is doomed to the same existance as he is." He said. He laughed maniacally at the two dogs and Clare felt a tremendous fear well up inside her. Matt two was fearful, but he had not wanted anything to happen to Clare. He hopped down and nuzzled at her.
"ahh, looks like you two are adapting to your new roles already. I'm the only one who can understand you so don't even try talking to people you know." He added as he glared at them. "I'll leave you two now to get aquainted to your new lives. Maybe in a few years you can have a litter of pups to tell the story to." He laughed as he headed towards the window. With a deft leap he dissapeared into the darkness and left Clare and Matt, confused, canine, and together alone.
