Ray drifted off almost instantly in the bed, leaving John and Carrie
to wonder what they should do.
"I suppose we could just let him sleep it off," Carrie said, "But if
we do, I kind of feel weird about changing with him here. I mean, what
if he needs to go to a doctor or something?"
John nodded in agreement, already slipping out of his pumpkin costume.
To tell the truth, he'd been regretting it since shortly after they'd
rented it. "Yeah, I'm not sure how two pumpkins could even dial a
phone," he said, squeezing her knee reassuringly. "Well, we can always
do this some tomorrow night." John hoped something far more
interesting would manage to happen for them tomorrow, so he could
avoid something stupid like turning into a pumpkin.
Carrie reluctantly went to the bathroom to slip out of her costume and
into a loose fitting t shirt and sweat pants, her normal bedtime wear.
"So," Carrie asked, "What do we do tonight, since we're not going to
be partaking in the festivities of Halloween Town?
