Dwight Dodge had always loved reading comic books and had always dreamed of being a superhero. The only thing that was stopping him was his lack of any superhero powers.
At the age of fifteen, he was rather short, standing only five foot four, had a pale complexion and was called a nerd by everyone that knew him in the high school, which he was twelfth grade, having skipped to grades when he was in elementary school.
Walking home one day, hoping that he could avoid the jocks who so loved to make his life a misery, he was so preoccupied on avoiding the football team, that he failed to see where he was walking as he traipsed through an odd, bluish-white puddle that glistened like a like a rainbow in the right light.
A noise behind him and spinning around to see who it was, Dwight overbalanced and fell forward into the goop, soaking him completely from his neck down to about the knees of his pants.
Groaning, he thought, "This is just great," as he pushed up his glasses and attempted to right himself.
Standing, he took a step, but immediately doubled over in pain. As he stood there with his hands on his knees, breathing heavily, the puddle beneath him slowly shrank and then moved below his sneakers and then into his shoes, to be absorbed by his feet.
To much in pain, Dwight missed this as he gasped out, "What is wrong with me?" placing a hand on his chest as he asked this.
"I'll tell you what's wrong," a voice replied and looking up, Dwight saw the captain of the football team, flanked by two of his closest friends.
Grinning, the captain told him, "You're a spineless wimp who'll never amount to anything."
