You woke up and looked at the picture on your nightstand like you did every morning. You loved Julie Halber with all your heart but she and her daughter mysteriously disappeared thirty-five years ago. You didn’t get a phone call or a note or anything to explain what happened. You had heard a rumor that she had ran off with another man. You had a different idea though. You thought that the game got them. Still you became bitter when she left and haven’t dated since. Now you’re sixty-nine and waiting for your life to end or for Julie to come back to you.
Sighing you got up and took your morning shower. It would have been nice if Julie could be with you. You had just gotten out of the shower and dressed for the day when the phone rang. Wondering who could be calling you at this time of the morning you picked the receiver up and said, “Mackie residence.”
“Hello Carl,” a deep voice said.
“Who is this?” you asked since you didn’t recognize the voice.
“You don’t know me but I know you Carl,” the voice said. “I know your love left you thirty-five years ago today. I also know why she left.”
“You do?” you asked hoping to put that mystery to rest.
“Oh I do,” the voice said with glee in his voice. “I asked her to marry me.”
“And she said yes?” you asked shocked at the thought.
“On the contrary she said no,” the voice said.
Feeling your anger rise you asked in a low voice, “What did you do to her and Beth? If you hurt them you better hope that the police get to you before I do.”
“Ah… I like to hear that anger,” the voice said. “As to your question I just asked her another question. And now I’m asking you that question as well. Transform or dare?”
