Brian O'Connor opened the compact device. It looked more like a
Nintendo mobile gameboy than a weapons control system. He pressed the
on button and the screens came to life. Two touch screens one on the
top half and the other on the lower. The lower screen displayed a
small inset window and touch controls with various buttons and labels.
The geomap appeared on the top screen. Brian manipulated the satellite
to select a spot on the globe and zoom in.
He laughed as the image rapidly zoomed in and refocused. He was
staring at a guy's naked crotch. He zoomed out slightly. The random
spot on the map turned out to be a popular nude beach in the South of
France. The guy lying there naked working on his tan had no idea that
the satellite system had locked in on him. Already facial recognition
software was working to identify the subject.
The system chimed. Subject data loaded, read the message. Brian
O'Connor clicked on "subject one". Instantly the screen was filled
with data extracted from a thousand data bases and condensed into a
single screen file. Brian was impressed.
Subject One: Stewart Allan Granger, age 27, weight: 155 per Maryland
driver's license (Actual weight per scan 164.75lbs), height: 5'11" per
Maryland driver's license (Actual height per scan 5' 10.69"), IQ range
122-145 (sources Maryland Public Schools, Columbia University, Online
Quiz).
The parenthetic data above only appeared when the asterisk next to the
original entry was clicked on to provide the additional date. There
was Stewart's entry date into France for "pleasure", and even his
hotel room number.
When Brian O'Connor had finished reading up on his test subject, he
toggled back to the main screen, and looked at the options he had
available to test on the subject. His finger hovered over the first
entry, then over the second. He licked his lips, and scrolled down, he
was impressed at the number of things the satellite could purportedly
do to a target halfway around the world. It was ironic and appropriate
that his first target was an American. He smiled as he read the entry,
and he depressed the button. The satellite whirred to life, as the
unsuspecting target just lay there basking in the sun.
