"You have no idea what it is like for me," Mark hissed at the Chipmunk that his sister had become. "You have no idea or concept of what it means to be a boy at one time and then expected to be a girl," she raved as she paced back and forth.
It was now two days later and all plans Mark had made to help find the vials had failed as one thing after another had come up. First, it was school. Afterward, Mark, who was expected to keep out of the way, because their parents, worried that Mark hadn't come home, had finally called the police - who begun their investigation by searching the farm.
After that, the police took Mark aside and asked her on when she had last seen himself, to which she found she needed to depend even more on Jenifer's memories. And when the police finally left, mother started dinner and Mark found that herself confined to the house. And the next day hadn't turned out any better, as Mark found herself forced to go to Jenifer's school and pretend to be Jenifer - something she was finding easier and easier to do - and the to come home and be Jenifer there.
Looking at the Chipmunk that Jenifer had turned into, Mark sat down and then quietly explained, "I'm slipping more and more. I'm starting to forget stuff." and then, unaware that any change had occurred, she announced, "I'm afraid because I know what is going to happen to my body. Mom explained to me what a girl goes through when she hits puberty. I also have seen the way Mark's friend, Liz, did as she grew up and slowly drifted away, letting the world around her swallow her."
Moving over to the bed, Jenifer/Mark lay down and then rolled over. Within moments, she was asleep.
Aware of what just happened, and slightly disturbed by it, Jenifer watched as he brother turned sister lay down on the bed and then turning away, she scampered toward the window, thinking, "If you won't make any effort to find the vials, then I'll do it myself." and then leaping out of the window, she scrambled into a nearby tree.
There, she hastily removed the doll clothes she was wearing, hating the fact that she had run about without them, but not wanting people to discover her wearing such items - "Or worse. Discovering I can talk and think," Brittany/Jenifer thought - and then shimmying down the tree, she made her way across the barnyard, wary of the family dog, Bowser.
In truth, she was also slipping, just not as fast as her brother. She knew that she had been human at one time and named Jenifer, but her memories also told her that she was born a Chipmunk, her name was Brittany and that she had two sisters, Eleanor and Jeanette.
Confused, she paused and listened to her surroundings and when she was sure she was safe, she made a dash toward the hen house and inside. Peering around, she eventually began to explore.
It wasn't her first visit since she had been transformed, it was actually closer to her fifth; having come here for the past two days to try and figure out a way to undo what had been done - which was when she had discovered something on her first visit after her transformation: someone had removed all the vials.
Dashing about, sniffing the air and peering into different areas of the hen-house, sure there was a clue somewhere, Jenifer/Brittany was only discouraged when, after about an hour of searching, she found not a trace of whoever removed the vials,
Thinking, "I'm going to be stuck like this," Jenifer/Brittany exited the hen house and was about to make her way back up to the house, when she saw something out of place.
Scampering over to the object, she picked it up and as she fingered it, she realised that what it was, was a piece of cloth, torn from somebody's clothes. Excited, item clutched in paw, she tore up to the house, not caring if Bowser did see her.
Dashing up the tree, she hastily dressed herself and stuffing the shred of cloth into her shirt, Jenifer/Brittany took a flying leap out of the tree and onto her bedroom windowsill. Running across the slab of wood, she jumped down onto the floor and quickly made her way toward the sleeping figuring.
Squeaking out, "Mark! Mark! Wake up. I need to tell you something."
To her horror, the sleeping form, mumbled, "I'm not mark. Mommy and Daddy say he's gone missing," and then rolled over and away from Jenifer/Brittany.
Not believing what she was hearing, the Chipmunk ran toward the sleeping form and jumping up onto her, Jenifer/Brittany began pushing at her in various spots, trying to wake the sleeping human up, calling out as she did so, "You have to wake up. You have to believe me when I say you're name is Mark. Come on. Wake up."
