Daniel looked at the chain again. He thought it looked pretty cool, so he threw it over his neck to try it on. He decided that it would be the safest place to keep it until he could find Josh. The bell rang for lunch, so Daniel got up and left the library so he could hunt down Josh.
On the other side of the school, Josh finished putting the books in his car and drove home. He was sure his dad wouldn't care if he skipped the rest of the day. This was an emergency. He drove off, thinking everything was fine, but little did he know that the chains were now in in the hands of someone else. One of them was hung around Daniel's neck. The other had been found by Alex.
Alex was still in his first year of high school, the a few years younger than Kyle. When he first saw the chain, he looked around to see who had dropped it. But it was sitting in the middle of the grass, with no one around. Something about it intrigued him, so he put it on. Alex figured that if the owner saw it, he'd give it back, otherwise it was his now.
He walked over to the school, and dropped his backpack. He sat against the wall enjoying the fresh air and sun. Alex reach in and pulled out some food and began to eat. He looked up when he heard someone shouting the name Josh.
It was Daniel. He had heard that Josh was heading to his car, so he tried to cut him off, only to see Josh turn the corner and go out of sight. He sighed and walked back the way he came. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Alex. 'Oh it's THAT kid.' Daniel thought to himself, 'He's so weird. And what's he staring at!'
Alex had been looking right at Daniel. 'Oh it's him...' Alex smiled, 'Such a jerk... I hope that person had something important for you. Too bad they're gone now!' Daniel continued to eat, but stopped when he saw the chain around his neck float in the air, as though it were pointing at Daniel.
Daniel tried to turn around, but found he couldn't. He saw the chain he was wearing doing the same thing, but pointing at Alex. "What the ..." Both boys tried to take off the halves they were wearing, but neither half would budge...
