The wind rushed through my mane. The stars wheeled past my head. Runt grasped firmly
at my neck. It was glorious. I'd never felt so alive.
And soon I'd be dead.
Out the corner of my eyes, I could see three or four of those dazzling white beings, hot on
our trail.
"What will they do if they catch us?"
"Oh, you know," Runt dismissed, "Probably blast us out of ever existing"
"Not me!?" I asked, distressed, "I'm innocent. You kidnapped me"
"I doubt they'll wait to ask questions," he murmured.
I looked again. There were easily ten of those things now. A banked a corner down onto
5th Avenue.
"What do we do?"
"There is one thing"
"What is it?"
"Oh...you're gonna hate me"
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning seared past me and ploughed into a nearby building.
"Just do it!" I whinnied.
"Fly toward the moon"
I pulled up sharply and put the full moon in my sights. But now we were above the skyline,
we were completely without cover. A billion more lightning bolts careered past us.
"I hope you know what you're doing"
Suddenly, everything went white. There was a loud wooshing noise and then only silence.
The next thing I new, the sun was stinging my eyes.
I was splayed out on wet grass. I opened my eyes and saw that I was surrounded by the
most beautiful forest I'd ever seen. Not far was a wide glen, which reflected the light of the
amber sunrise.
I looked at myself. Still a winged horse.
"I guess we're not in Kansas any more," Runt sniggered.
He was sat in the grass nearby. In spite of myself, I couldn't help but think he looked
gorgeous, naked in the dewey green.
"Where are we?" I asked, "How did we get here"
"We hopped," He explained, "I hopped from Hell up to Earth. This is the next step up the
ladder"
"Heaven?" I asked. Runt laughed.
"Hardly," He told me, "This is the Fey realm. Realm of magic. They'll find it harder to find us
'ere"
At first, I was awed. That I, of all people, should be fortunate enough to witness this place
that until last night I never believed existed. Then I thought about it.
"But..." I started, "How will I get back?"
"Ah..." Runt replied.
"I can't, can I?" I exclaimed incredulously, "I'm trapped here with you, aren't I?"
"Well, you can only hop on a full moon"
"Fuck!" I yelled, "Not only am I stuck in this stupid pegasus body with only the promise
that I might look kind of how I used to, I'm stuck with you in some stupid fairy-tale wood
and I can't go back for at least a month!"
"Calm down," Runt assured me, "I'll get you home, I promise. But I need you"
"What for!?" I spat.
"I told you I can't change meself," He explained, "If I'm gonna get around, I need to change
you"
"You can forget it!"
"Look, I didn't mean for this to happen"
"You broke into my home! You raped me in my kitchen. You turned me into a horse"
"Because you told me to!"
My ears pricked up. I heard movement nearby.
"They'll still be looking for us," I asked, tentatively, "Won't they?"
Runt nodded. "I have to change you before somebody recognizes us"
I was too scared to argue.
"Make me human again, then" I told him.
"Sorry," Runt replied, "No humans in the Fey realm. If we're gonna blend in, you need to be
something that shouldn't exist. Any magical creature you like. Your choice"
I looked him in the eye.
