As Lydia lay crying on her floor she heard a familiar sound. After a moment, she realized it was the song "Diving" by 4 Strings - her cellphone's ringtome.
The sound was coming from the top of her dresser. Lydia couldn't see the top of the dresser from the floor, but she could reach it. She grabbed wildly for her phone and finally got hold of it. Pulling it down to her she saw her boyfriend on the caller ID. Lydia flipped the phone open.
"Lydia! Where are you?"
"I'm in my room. Something's happened to me. I know how crazy this sounds, but can't get my swimsuit off. My parents aren't home. Please, help me!" She started sobbing again.
"I'll be there in about 10 minutes. Can you let me in?"
"No, I can't get off the floor." But after a moment something occured to her: "I don't think I locked the door behind me when I got home. You should be able to get in."
"I'm on my way. Are you okay? Are you in pain?"
"No, it doesn't hurt. But I can't stand up and I can't get my swimsuit off. I don't know what's going on and I'm really scared." More sobbing.
"I'll be there soon. I love you, Lydia." He hung up.
Lydia closed her cell then tossed it across her room in frustration. It landed in her laundry basket. She pulled her legs to her chest and cried. She desperately wanted to make sense of what was happening to her.
After a few minutes of crying, she slowly began to calm down. Then she felt something on her arm. She looked and realized the spandex had moved down her arms to her wrists. Lydia realized her face had been against her forearms when she was crying.
First the shower. Then the rain. Now her tears. Water was making the spandex of her suit form to her body then expand along her limbs. But why?
She heard the front door of the house open and close.
"Lydia?" her boyfriend called out.
"Upstairs in my bedroom" she shouted back.
She heard his footsteps come up the stairs and then her boyfriend was standing in her doorway.
