Dan and Sally were in a catty mood. Naturally, they ended up looking in the animal section with its wide variety of cat ears, tails and other feline accessories. Sally was particularly interested in going to the party as a feline.
"You'd make a great catgirl," Dan smiled. Sally smiled back...but she had even more in mind than that.
"Will you try it with me?" she asked.
"Sure, I'll get a cat costume too."
"No, I mean, let's both be catgirls. Like the ones in anime."
"What? Why?"
"Because it'll be fun. You can't tell me you're nervous about cross-dressing." Dan knew she was referring to a night about a year ago when he wore some of Sally's lingerie as a joke for her birthday.
"But this is with real clothes...and wigs...in front of people...," he said. He thought about it for another minute. "Okay, I'll do it. There's usually two or three guys in drag at these things anyway."
"Plus you'll be with me, and if anybody asks we can tell them it was my idea. You'll love it, you'll see." Sally was delighted to her Dan agree. She'd secretly wanted to see him in drag again, ever since her birthday.
The two quickly got to work pulling their outfits together. They agreed with going for a typical anime look, which meant finding brightly colored wigs and school uniforms that looked good with the ears and tails they chose. After a long time of deliberation, they took their completed sets to the front counter.
The funny-looking old man pleasantly rung up their order. "Find everything alright? Anything else we can do for you?"
"You said you could help us with makeup and things?" Sally asked. "Can we schedule to come in before the party in two days?"
"Absolutely! What time is the party?" he asked, pulling out a worn-down notebook and flipping through its pages.
"Seven o'clock," Dan said.
"Then you should be here around five," the man said. He scratched some words into the book. "Five-thirty at the latest, if the drive isn't too far. If you'd like we can hold onto your costumes 'til then. Keep them reserved so they don't get sold off."
"That'd be great, thanks!" Sally said. They gave the man the costumes and accessories, which he hung in one of the long cubbyholes behind the counter. He tore the page out of his notebook and taped it above the cubby.
"See you then," he bid goodbye as Dan and Sally left the store.
