Carrie hugged John, and said smiling at her husband. "Let's go! I can't wait!" She practically bounced on her toes, her smile threatening to split her face in half. "Hurry!" She giggled and grabbed the two pumpkin costumes, stuffed them into one of her luggage bags and before John knew what was going on, pulling him out of the costume shop.
"Byethanksforthecostumes!" Carrie yelled back to the shop keeper, John in tow hand in hand.
"Oooph!" John ran into a suddenly stopped Carrie and bounced backwards, with the strange sensation of stretching. He felt himself keep going backwards and saw his arm and hand, still held tightly by Carrie, stretch. Then the stretch slowed and stopped and the pull back to his wife began. John threw out his feet to skid to a stop right back next to Carrie. "Whew!" He said. "I think I might have gone right passed you." Carrie only grinned and nodded back before putting her free hand to her lips and give out a loud whistle.
A sudden screech of tires and brakes announced a very toonish taxi cab, complete with pink fuzzy dice, John noticed. The cab driver, a bull dog, by the looks of it popped out the window. "Yo peeps. New in town? I'mma the cab for youse!" The driver said in a bad Brooklyn accent. Carrie opened the door to the cab and was about to put their luggage in when the driver zipped up next to them. "Lemme take those for you." He flung the luggage into the trunk with a thud, a crash of china and of all things, a cat.
Carrie and John climbed into the cab and found it much smaller than they thought. The close quarters pressed their knees up and next to each other. "So, where can I take ya guys?" The driver asked, his arm over the front seat.
John, getting somewhat over his befuddlement, replied. "Um...Hallowe'en Town please."
"You got it!" The driver growled and flung his paw down on the gas and they were off leaving only toonish clouds and exhaust behind them. Scenery whizzed passed the windows. John could have sworn it was repeating every little bit like cartoons did. He shrugged, it was a toon world. As long as they got to Hallowe'en Town. John looked over at Carrie, smiled and put his arm around her. Both to hug her and to give them a bit more room. It was nice, even cramped as they were, to be next to her like this. To feel her warmth and curves against him.
In the rearview mirror, the driver smiled as he saw the two lovebirds.
Screeching to a halt, the car sent Carrie and John into a tangle of limbs. "Here we are!" The bull dog driver opened the door and pulled them out and just as quickly dumped their luggage onto the ground before speeding off to who knew where.
Dusting themselves off, the two oriented themselves. They stood on a dusty country road and before them another road led away. It was surrounded by a twisted wrought iron fence with a large arched gate. The gate stood open, and looked to be rusted shut. On a crooked wooded sign in danger of falling down any minute and written in an archaic font was 'Hallowe'en Town 1 mile yonder.'
The road they were on now had blue skies and green fields, but the road into Hallowe'en Town led into a darkening sky, going from blue to orange and purples, blistered with dark forbidding clouds. It was a landscape you'd expect in October, full of wind blown leaves, branches raking the skies and the bite of cold and the first smells of woodsmoke.
Carrie was loving this, her eyes lit up at the sight of the new scenery. "Come on!" She cried and started walking quickly down the creepy road. John nodded and picked up their luggage before following her.
