"Knock knock!" you hear from behind you as the door creaks open. Your girlfriend has joined you, holding a pair of small white socks and white trainers. "I found some nice little shoes for you."
"They'd be 'little' to you, too," you whine.
She lifts a lock of your long hair. "You turned out nicer than I expected," she says.
You put on the new socks and shoes, not surprised that they're a perfect fit. You look back at the mirror to see that they look good with the shirt and skirt, but you'd rather not be wearing any of them.
You feel your girlfriend tugging at your hair. "Hey, leggo! What are you doing?"
"I'm braiding your hair," she says. "That'll help keep it out of the way.
"Just shorten it, then," you pout, knowing she wouldn't even consider that option.
"So I've been thinking about questions you're gonna be getting if anyone asks about your...let's say 'ambiguous' gender. The story goes that during puberty, your chromosomes got mixed up somehow. Instead of producing testosterone, your body refused to mature into its rightful male form. That left you rather short, and rather thin and frail. Your hair even grows at a much faster rate than anyone's, so instead of blowing money on boy haircuts you just leave it long and trim it yourself. You picked up a lot of girly traits as a result of these changes, and prefer to wear girls' clothing because it's less awkward for you. You always got mistaken for a girl, anyway, and having lived like this for several years now, you don't care to declare yourself one gender or the other. You'd prefer to be called a 'he,' but when people treat you like a girl, you go along with it and don't bother telling them the truth. What do you think? I made all of that up just a minute ago."
"I think you've got a twisted imagination."
"Aww, sourpuss. Anyway, we're finally done!"
She steps away to let you have a look at your new braid. It's quite thick and tied at the waist with a pink band. It would look beautiful on a girl. As it is, it only helps make you look even girlier.
"So cute," she says. "Now let's buy your new outfit and get on with my shopping."
