Phil put the chain in his back pocket and walked off, back down stairs.
"Dang it! Now what are we going to do? That chain was a clue." Damion said, angrily. "Well, we could try and get it back, but I don't know how we could. I'm not the best pickpocket." Steve said, indirectly asking about Damion's pickpocketing skill. "Actually, I am."
Damion led Steve to his room and they both keeled down by his bedside table. He opened one of the drawers and pulled out a small red magnet. "I'm not sure that will work. Thats only in like, cartoons and stuff." Steve said. "Oh no, it works. I've tested it and it worked. I cheat when it comes to pickpocketing." Damion replied to the objection. "Well, if we are going to find out what that chain does, we need both halves."
They walked down stairs and walked into the living room. Phil's Recliner was faced away from the boys so they agreed that they would use distraction as the ploy. Steve went back to the stairs like he was coming down and went around to the front of Phil's chair. "Um, Phil?" Steve asked, nervously. Damion pulled out the magnet at this time but didn't start to make the pull until Phil got talking. "Yes, Steve?" Phil said. "My dad isn't around much, so could I talk to you as a father?" Steve said, making up junk. "Of course. What is it you wanted to talk about?" Damion started to make the pull now, as Phil was starting to pay less attention to his back pocket.
"Well, there's this girl..." Steve said, telling a half truth. He did truly like this one girl in his school. "Ok. So you need to impress her..." Phil said and then continued. Damion stuck the magnet near Phil's back pocket and he saw the outline of the eagle chain start to move. He moved it until it poked out of Phil's pocket. "So, then you need to..." Phil continued. Steve just nodded and smiled, not actually paying attention to what Phil was saying. Damion finally lifted the chain all the way out and made it stick to the magnet. Damion stood up and gave Steve a signal. He then, quietly, went up stairs to his room.
"Thank you for the talk, Phil, but I just remembered Damion wanted to show me something. I only came down here to talk and sort of sneaked away." Steve said, lying through his teeth. "Ok. Just remember my advice." Phil told him. Steve went up stairs with a smile of satisfaction on his face. He entered Damion's room and saw that Damion had already put the chain on.
