"You lied to me!" Lisa repeated, raising her voice this time.
Jen froze for a moment, all the pleasure she'd been feeling disappearing like snowflakes from under a burning sun. She quickly collected herself.
"Yes, I did," she said, turning around to face her smaller friend. "Your mom asked me to, to protect you."
"That's your excuse? Friends don't lie!"
"You've lied to me loads of times!" Jen retorted, angry in her own right, as she mentally flipped through the pages of their friendship's history. "You always insisted it was for my own good," Jen added in a softer tone.
"What, does Mom not think I can handle the truth?" Lisa tried again. Her cheeks were growing puffy and red from anger. Jennifer used to always find it funny when her friend got angry, because she turned a soft red, but she knew that, at least for Carol's sake, she had to try and calm her.
"No, quite frankly I don't expect anyone to really be able to handle truth," Jen said, trying her hardest to keep her voice calm. "I'm having trouble myself!"
Lisa quickly dressed, remaining silent and not even attempting to care for her body's hair. She buttoned up her pjs, not really caring that she had done it wrong, and marched off to Andy's bedroom, telling Jen coldly that she wanted to be alone that night.
"I don't think that went as well I as I intended," Jen said to herself.
