Laura let out a contented sigh. “I just wish I looked more like one of the Playboy girls in this movie,” she said, nodding toward the TV where “The House Bunny” still played, unwatched.
”What?” mumbled Kevin, lost in a fog of horniness. “No, you look fine. Beautiful. You look beautiful.” He leaned over to kiss her again.
When the kiss broke, Laura said, “Well, I also wish we could do more than just kiss.”
”Huh? We can’t?”
”Your parents, silly, and your sister,” explained Laura. “And my parents and my brothers.”
”Oh, yeah,” said Kevin. The fog cleared from his brain a bit -- of course he wouldn’t be able to have sex with Laura in his own bedroom. What was he thinking?
He suddenly sat upright. “Wait, you said ‘wish.’”
Laura eyed him suspiciously. “Yeah, I did. So...”
”So -- so --“ Kevin got out of bed. “So I’ll be right back.” He started toward his sister’s room, and managed to trip over his best friend Derek’s backpack again, although he didn’t go all the way to the ground this time.
He turned back around. “Oh, yeah, do you know where Derek is? Why is his backpack here?”
Laura was still eyeing him suspiciously. “It’s here half the time, so I don’t know why you’re suddenly tripping over it. He’s always leaving it in your last class when he runs to catch the bus.”
”But as we’re leaving, I always pick it up for hi--“ Kevin put a hand to his mouth. Laura, he knew, had a red Mustang. “You always drive me, don’t you? So Derek and I don’t leave together to take the bus.”
”Uh, yeah, I drive you here, or to my house -- what’s wrong with you?”
”So it literally changes reality,” Kevin said to himself.
”What?!”
”Nothing,” he replied. “Okay, like I said, I’ll be right back.”
He made a beeline toward Cassandra’s room.
