The Four Giggling Girls

D is for Diane

added by be_merry 12 years ago BM

Diane did not find her necklace until almost noon. She had spent the morning trying to think of something to do for the rest of the day. She was set to meet up with the girls that afternoon but she could think of nothing to do. The others had been too busy it seemed to answer their various communication devices. This left Diane without any ideas and sore finger from dialing and texting.

Diane had watched TV and gone on the internet. She had eaten and flipped through a beauty magazine. She even had done some homework. But that had not done anything to lessen her boredom. Diane lay on her bed wishing that someone would do something to help her.

In desperation she sat at her desk and looked in the mirror. She had intended to clean out her desk drawers but found that she was just not interested enough to start. She watched her face and watched her eyes watching herself. She was so bored she was going to fall out of the chair. There was a magazine open on her desk and she looked at just to stop looking at her own face.

It was a short article about makeup. Comparing colour and style and method to get the look of celebrities. The one in the corner talked about how to use the newest products available on the market to get luscious, bee-stung lips like a famous actress. Diane read it four times trying to resist actually doing what it suggested. In the end she started reaching for her cosmetics.

As she looked at her face before starting, Diane appraised her looks. She was young and pretty. She had a cute countenance that just screamed youth and naivete. She wanted a new look. She wanted to be dark and mysterious. The kind of sultry lady that hangs around in bars luring men into a world of secrets and lies. Dangerous eyes, with dark shadows, long lashes and arched eyebrows. Pale skin with a small imperfection that made her seem just a little more sexy. And her lips would have to be dark-red, full and pouty, and slick like red wine or bourbon. The kind of girl, no woman, who smoked cigarettes held in long, silver filters held in gloved fingers.

Diane giggled with her girlish voice. She sounded so immature. She hated her voice. She tried to talk with a deep, breathy voice but it hurt her throat and started laughing too much.

Tossing the image aside, Diane pulled out her makeup kit and started following instructions. First the eyes were given a treatment. She shaded and lengthened and highlighted and edged and in the end her eyes came out heavily caked in makeup. But they looked good; sexy. She batted her lashes and tried to look mysterious with heavy-lidded eyes but the rest of her just did not fit.

Diane opened the drawer where she kept all her lip stuff. That was where she found the box. The box held the necklace and soon Diane was holding it. She clasped it around her neck and marveled at how the glittery gem caught the light. Her eyes looked better with the new addition. The necklace tightened around her neck as if it was made for her. The little letter 'D' suggested that was the case. Diane felt a wash of power through her body.

There was a magical quality about the necklace. It seemed to change Diane's whole appearance. The lighting in the room seemed to fall on her differently. Her face's angles caught the light and made sharper shadows than before. She seemed paler even. She breathed a sigh and marveled how it came out. Sort of a low hum and not a high-pitched squeak that she normally had.

She tired a line of dialogue. "Please, sit down, handsome, and entertain me for a while." Her voice was smoky and deep and sexy. Diane could purr with her voice now; fem-fatale like.

The only thing she needed to do was fix her lips. But when she made to actually touch colour to skin she found them already getting darker. As she watched she could see the skin deepen a shade or two and become glossy. She watched as her lips became more swollen and full. They looked like the after image in the magazine and she had not even done anything to them.

Diane smiled to herself in the mirror but the light played with the magic and shadows were cast over her eyes making her look devious. The smile looked anything but the pure signal of happiness she made it for. Diane dropped the smile and blew a kiss for her image. If she was not careful people might suspect she had a dark secret to hide. One of magic and excitement. How terrible, she thought. Diane winked.
