Nathan hopped on his bike and left his house early that morning before heading to school. He had recently found some interesting rocks in the woods on his way to school yesterday and wanted to see what else he could find and collect. Stopping his bike on the trail, he grabbed his backpack and ran the 50 meters to the strange rocks he found the day before. He grabbed his hand shovel and dug around the rocks, taking ones that were most in tact and had the most discernible etchings.
But below the pile of rocks, he found a small, cracked, stone box. He could hear something inside it! He knew he couldn't get inside the box without cracking it, so he slammed it against a boulder next to him. Falling out with a strange, gold, medallion held together by a thin, very old, moldy piece of twine. Examining the medal, he noticed that the language on it matched the characters on the rocks. Slipping it into his backpack, he looked forward to his Ancient History class where he could tell Mr. Marks about the medallion. He ran back to his bike and quickly rode to school, just making it before the bell rang.
He slipped the medallion into his pocket. He had History last today, but wanted to be the first to break the story to Mr. Marks. Lately bullies had been stealing stuff from his locker, so he held the medallion close to his person.
After lunch he reported to P.E. His least favorite class of the day. Due to the block scheduling of the school, he was stuck in a small P.E. class of only 8 and all the kids were football players. All but one kid, Jon, treated him poorly, often poking jokes at his nerdy glasses or his inability to shoot a hoop. Jon often stuck with him on teams and tended to help him out. He was the J.V. Quarterback and Nathan appreciated his help.
“Alright, boys,” said Coach Michaels. “Today we're gonna do a little 4 v. 4 relay swimming, I hope you brought your trunks.” The students changed into their swim suits and reported at the pool. Nathan dragged the team behind in their relays and caused them to lose. Feeling bad, He pulled himself out of the pool and skipped back early to the locker. He showered before the other kids got back and quickly wrapped his towel around him, before the others made it back to the locker room.
“Hey turd” said Craig, a jock who tended to pick on him, “thanks for making us lose!” Before Nathan had a chance to get away, Craig grabbed him by the arm and threw him down onto the ground, nearly knocking his towel off. “You're such a piece of shit” he said. With that, he walked toward the showers. The other students, all but Jon, laughed at him and headed toward the showers.
Nathan, nearly in tears from his humiliating experience, ran back to the lockers. “Those shitheads” he thought to himself, “if only I was able to get them, if only I was able as big as them, I'd show them.” He opened the locker and noticed the medallion hanging just outside his pants pocket. It was glowing slightly.
Picking it up, he knew that this thing had something different going about it...something...supernatural. He wanted to put it on, but, what would happen?
