"Go on..." she says encouragingly. "Trust me, I've heard it all before."
"You have?" you ask.
"Yeah, this business attracts the weird ones at times. I'll spare you the details, but yeah..."
"Well, at the risk of being one of the weird ones, deep down, I always wanted to be a werewolf," you say.
She almost looked relieved. "Well, we have a few different things, we have costumes, which once you put them on, you would become that thing, in your case a werewolf costume," she said.
"Okay," you reply.
"But in your case, I get the sense that going through the transformation is part of the appeal, am I right?"
"Yes, definitely. Ever since I saw an American Werewolf in London and the Howling, I always secretly wanted to go through a transformation like that," you reply.
"I thought so. I have just the thing." She reached into the display case behind her and pulled out a vial containing a white, semi-clear liquid. "This is a special potion, it will allow the consumer to transform into a werewolf for one night. Sort of like a lycanthropy free sample."
You take the vial from her and stare at the white liquid.
"Cool," you mutter. "How long does the transformation take?"
"About 10-15 minutes usually."
"Wicked cool," you look outside and see it's stopped raining. "Looks like a cool, autumn night...sounds like a great time to get fanged and furry."
"I think so too," she replies. "Have fun!"
"I will!" you reply, dashing from the store. You drive straight back to your apartment. Luckily, you live on the ground floor, with your patio facing a large, wooded preserve.
You throw your coat on the chair by the door and sit down on the couch. You stare at the vial for a few moments and then down the entire contents. You inhale and then exhale. Nothing.
"Figures," you mutter, placing the stopper back in the vial and tossing it back on the coffee table and leaning back on the couch. Suddenly, you feel yourself feeling warm, really warm. You feel a couple pinching pains in your gut, filled by a tingling sensation all over.
"No way..." you think to yourself as you jump up off the couch and head straight for the bathroom. You flip on the light and are shocked by your reflection. Your eyes have changed from their usual color to a dazzling deep amber. You smile when you see the beginnings of your teeth growing out into fangs.
"Holy shit, this is really happening!" you exclaim and marvel again at your changes. You watch as the soft, brown fur slowly grows out around your face and down your neck, disappearing under your shirt.
You feel a tightness in your feet and quickly pull off your shoes and socks, revealing two furred feet. You grimace in pain and watch as your feet start to stretch and reform into digigrade paws.
"Cool," you say, taken aback at how much deeper, more guttural your voice has become.
As you brace yourself on the sink, you hear a slight tinking sound, which you realize is your new claws hitting up against the porcelain. Your muscles start to swell and grow, and along with the new found fur, your clothes become tight and start to tear at the seams. You rip off your shirt, revealing muscular chest, covered with cascading brown fur.
The final changes overtake you as your face slowly pushes out into a lupine snout, and your pointed ears shift to the top of your head.
You check yourself out in the mirror, give a wolfish smile and then dash from your apartment and into the woods beyond. When you finally get deep enough into the woods, you let out a long, joyful howl. It's going to be fun being a werewolf.
