I got off lightly, I guess. Dr. Von Hauser realized that, if she tried telling my mother or anyone what had happened, they wouldn't believe her. But she did threaten to have me locked away if I ever tried anything like that again.
So I went on home. I wasn't real happy. I'd had the most incredible thing anyone could want, and I'd wished it away.
I wonder if anyone else had it now.
Nothing happened worth mentioning the rest of the day. The next day, I got up and turned on the TV in my room to watch the news.
