Lina peered at the can she picked up out of the vending machine. Its logo said "Serve This!".
"What's with the two pop tops?" she asked.
Amy looked at the top of the can and saw two smaller than average poppers positioned on opposite sides of the lid. One of them had an "M" embossed on it, and the other an "S." A big notice on the side of the can read "Double the Refreshment: Never Drink Alone!"
"Guess we should split it?" Amy suggested as Lina opened the "M" side of the can and began guzzling.
"Ugh, it's disgusting," Lina said, handing the can over to Amy. "It's bitter. It's a really harsh taste."
Amy popped the "S" side open because she didn't want to drink from the same opening as Lina. She took a careful sip. "Woah," she said. It wasn't bitter at all. "I taste something really sweet." She took another big gulp, but then pulled the can away from her lips. "Blech, too sweet. It's trying way too hard to be good. So are there two sodas in here?"
Amy squinted one eye and peered into the can. She couldn't see anything like a dividing wall in the middle of the can to separate two different drinks. It seemed like it was all one big chamber like a normal can.
"Worst dollar I ever spent," Lina scoffed. "Come on, let's go. I've gotta find some water to wash that awful taste out of my mouth."
"But I'm not done looking around yet," Amy said.
"You can come back here whenever you want," Lina insisted. "I say we get out of here."
Amy was about to suggest that Lina go ahead of her, but for some reason she decided to leave along with Lina. She threw the can in a recycling bin near the front counter, where the old man was still snoozing. As they approached the front door, Amy sped up to get to it before Lina and held the door open for her.
"After you," Amy said.
"Um, thanks, Amy," Lina said.
As they walked down the street, Amy found herself wondering why she had just done that.
If either girl had bothered to read the details on the can, they would have noticed a box that explained "M for Master, S for Servant. Drink entire can for faster results."
