"Wh-what?" Eddie stammered.
"Hi, Eddie," Melanie repeated herself, this time in her normal voice.
"You guys are playing a trick on me now," he said, still in disbelief. I couldn't understand why until I realized that neither Amanda nor myself had said that it was Melanie. "Yea," he continued, "You're trying to..." he seemed to be thinking of a reason, "to...catch me in some type of position so that I'd never have a chance with Melanie." He looked proud that he could come up with a seemingly clever answer.
I shook my head and said, "I hate to spoil your conspriacy theory, Ed, but guess what? That is Melanie." Realization spilled over my friend's face. "Take a closer look," I dared.
It seemed to all come to him at once. He stared at her good and hard, and she got a kick out of having his full attention. His eyes scanned every inch of her body, as if he was trying to reason with himself and find the truth. Finally he said, "You're right, it is Melanie."
"What told you?" I asked.
Still staring at her, he said, "Her eyes."
A look developed on Melanie's face like she was about to cry. She held back whatever tears might have come and said, "That is the sweetest thing anyone ever said to me."
I wondered, "Why do you say that?"
She replied, "It just goes to show that he always looked past my appearance. He always looked at me, behind those glasses."
I heard Amanda utter, "Aww," in a cutesy tone. This was surprising me. Melanie was really overcome by his admission.
Eddie was still in shock though. "But how did this happen?" he asked. "You didn't get...well, I mean...altered, did you?"
Melanie reassured him. "To be honest, in a way, yes. But not how you're thinking. After all, I'm taller," she said, standing up from the chair. "I don't think there's any kind of surgical procedure that can alter height this much."
"Then how?" he asked.
I let her explain the story of the ring, from her point of view. "I didn't believe the either. In fact, I was very hesitant to them trying to do anything. But after it was over, I had all these new feelings." As she continued her explanation, she began to slowly walk over to Eddie, still glued to his seat on the couch. "I felt awakened. And I realized they were right. I didn't have any confidence in myself, and that's probably why I never really talked to you."
Eddie looked confused. "What do you mean, talked to me?"
Now she had an admission to make. "I've always had a crush on you, silly. But like I said I was always too afraid to ask. And I still didn't believe them until you just said it yourself."
"But...you said you have new feelings now?" he asked, still trying to figure out her changes.
"In some areas," she stated, floating her way closer to him. "I guess I'll still have the same doubts and apprehensions. But now I feel confident with myself, I feel like I can talk to anyone, and I feel sexy now, too." She was now standing right in front of him. Amanda and I had grins like chesire cats on our faces, waiting for sparks to fly.
She leaned down to him, giving Eddie a nice view of her cleavage. He swallowed hard. It was easy to tell he was getting aroused quickly. She got right in his face and said, "I can read people easily now, too." Despite the fact that most guys' attention would be drawn to her rack, Eddie's eyes never left her face, except for that one brief glimpse.
Eddie swallowed once more and then found words. "So, uh...How am I reading right now?"
"Hmm," she said, shaking her head up and down, "Like this." She kissed him on the lips. Eddie was still in such shock that he didn't return the favor. She placed her hands on his face and he got the idea. He kissed her back, getting himself lost in the moment. Melanie's knees started to buckle so she knelt on the floor in front of him. Amanda and I just watched as they shared a tender moment.
