All the runners had taken their position at the blocks by the time Joey had trotted up to the side of the tracks. Shi hadn't noticed until now that the hard rubbery surface of the track had been replaced with densely-packed earth, covered in grass. The tracks had been painted on like the stripes of a football-field. 'That makes sense' Joey thought 'Hooves are a little more delicate.' The newly-minted horse-herm looked down at hir own, and smiled pleased at the sight of slender, shining shoes tacked onto hirs.
Joey was startled out of hir reverie of looking at hirself when the start of the race was given; a softer bang than the regular starting shot, but then again, all the runners had more sensitive ears.

And Sara broke across the finish line with a whicker of surprise and joy.
Sara, her coat slick with sweat, trotted over to Joey, muzzle split in a broad grin, "I did it Joey!" She shouted, leaning over, and squeezing against her cousin. Joey gasped slightly, and then again as Sara kissed hir. Joey's eyes fluttered a moment, then he looked at Sara, "Sara! What are you doing?" Sara blushed, "Sorry. I just...I'm so happy right now." She kissed Joey again and Joey shivered, one foot stamping gently. There was gentle tittering from behind Joey and he turned to see the rest of the track team, "Hey, Sara!" It was Rachel, Sara's best friend, "Party at my place to celebrate, Kay?" Sara grinned and nodded, "Course!" Shi turned to Joey, "Look, no one's gonna care, and you've got that ring anyway." Shi smiled, and grabbed Joey's hand, "Wish us back to my place. I've got an idea." Joey smiled and did.
Back in Sara's house, the entire place carpeted so as not to damage Sara and Joey's delicate hooves, Sara turned to Joey and said...
