Jen goes to school the next day resigned to things being the way they are, at least for the time being. She sits obediently through bovine classes and tries her best to relax with her friends.
The lunch hall is just as busy as always, but now no longer has tables or chairs- just rows of troughs. As Jen munches on feed, her friend Michelle (who is growing into a fine red-and-white Hereford) looks up at one of the bulls across the hall. "That Alistair Mooreland is such a hotty", she says. "I hope I get assigned to him."
"You're looking forward to that? Don't you think it's cruel that we're being forced to mate?" Jen replied.
"Come on Jen, look at yourself," Michelle said. "You're an animal. I'm an animal. What right do we have to make those kind of decisions?"
"Yeah, and look at that ass!" one of the other girls chips in.
"I guess," Jen says dejectedly, before pushing her face back into the trough.

After lunch, Jen heads to meet her guidance counseller. Their meeting was scheduled before the changes, but was still apparently to go ahead.
She knocks with her gradually-forming hoof and enters, taking a seat before the human counsellor.
"So, Jennifer, given any thought as to how you intend to spend your life outside of here?"
"Well, I always wanted to be a doctor," Jen replies.
The counsellor laughs heartily. "Funny, young lady. Anyway, I've got a few pamphlets here for you to look at handed to me by a few big companies that you might be interested in."
Jen takes the pamphlets. Dairy farms. Hidden at the back are two for McDonalds and Burger King, which make Jen shudder.

Jen heads home more depressed than ever. She's going to be assigned a mate tomorrow. Will there ever be any respite for her?
