“Maybe the two of you should go home now… So I can take care of this dog” The Musher tells the two youngsters. “O-ok” Harry stammers and backs away from the dog and the musher, his eyes is staring at the dog. Although the dog seems a lot calmer now, he doesn’t want to risk getting bitten by this animal. He grabs his sister’s arm and tugs it, without looking away from the dog. “C’mon Sue, let’s go” She nods her head slightly “Ok…” she says bit absently, as if she’s thinking about something completely different. The two of them walk away. “No! Don’t go! You can’t leave me with him!” Bryan tries to say.
The sudden barks of the dog makes but Harry and Sue look back as they walk for their sleds. Sue leans closer to Harry and whisper in his ear. “Did you also hear the dog talk?” Harry nods. “So? It was just trail sickness” Sue shakes her head in disbelief. “Then how could we hear the same thing?” Harry bits his lips as he tries to think of something to counter his sister, but as he can think of anything he let’s out a long sigh of defeat. “Ok, so you mean the dog really talked or what?”
The musher watches the young man and woman. His instincts tells him that they didn’t fall for his lie, but right now making Bryan a dog again is more important… “He reaches down and scratches behind Bryan’s ears. He can feel Bryan’s efforts to get away from the hand. “Easy, boy, easy… You’re home now…” He says with a calm voice.
