The Scientist chuckled to himself. "Privacy? Not bloody likely." Not in a place such as this, in an experiment such as this. He watched Alex change from behind the one-way mirror installed in the room. "After all," the scientist thought, "what if something were to go wrong?"
The Scientist watched it come in a rush. Alex's mass could no longer hold his size, and he was suddenly a foot-tall bright-white full fledged chicken, standing and pecking at the room's checker-tiled floor.
"Ahh, another success." The Scientist moved to re-enter the room to collect his latest farm animal, when a sudden movement caught his eye.
Alex the Chicken was continuing to shrink. He began to panic and run around the room. He was nine inches tall. eight inches. Seven, Six. The Scientist buzzed the emergency button for assistance. He was not about to enter that room alone. Any number of things could happen, after all. Sudden cellular explosion, spontaneous reversion, and bizarre mutations had all been encountered (and subsequently covered up) in the preliminary experiments.
Alex's feathers actually began to fall out. He was bald! His skin began to develop a hard casing. The Scientist suddenly understood. The Administrator had given him a double dose of the catalyst, and Alex was becoming an egg!
The hard shell completely encased him just as the emergency crew burst into the examination room.
