Joanne and Riley watch as the two humans try to help their pack mate. The loud talking of the other dogs making it hard to focus on what the humans are saying. Riley turns toward the kennel doorway wanting to yell for the other dogs to shut up. But as if able to read his thoughts Joanne pads over and nips one of his ears hard. This brings about a brief tussle between the two large dogs. The strength of the bitch surprising him as he can not believe a girl is beating him in a fight, which causes him to fight harder.
“Riley! Joanne! Stop!” The zoo lady shouts not too sure the mock battling between her two dogs is play as she notices the minor wounds they managed to inflict upon each other.
“If those two have not yet set a firm pack rank no wonder Nancy here is struggling.” The vet Eric chides as he removes a needle from his patience. “I gave her the medicine that has worked for the others that have resisted in the past. “
“Had thought it was Joanne that was this packs leader. Not sure why Riley refused to submit to her. Bit puzzling as he should be acting instinctively.” The zoo lady Sarah replies while staring at her two dogs as if able to find the answer by looking at them long enough.
“What’s she saying Joanne? Are they going to make me into a bitch?” Riley asks his mate suddenly afraid at being the center of human attention. Ever sense having met and talked to a male that got fixed Riley has lived in fear of sharing the same fate. Making a point to mount any bitch that asks him he has been trying to show the humans what a good stud dog he can be.
Joanne growls softly and slowly calms herself angered over the male refusing to submit to her then the human braking up the fight before she was able to settle the pack business. Not understanding why the humans must interfere in her leadership she slowly calms herself knowing she must not bite or resist her human handler. “Fix you?” The bitch asks in surprise then shock not wanting to be one of the kennel bitches that has no male to mate with. “They are displeased you did not submit to your alpha.” She tells the male as the idea of how to get her pack once more in order forms in her mind. She herself had been listening to the others of her kind and ignoring the two humans once she figured out they are not here to hurt her sister. As after all they are not out in the training yard where she has to listen to commands but in her packs personal den space. And she had been enjoying the exchange of canine gossip. But as she notices the human who smells male stick something into the side of her pack sister she bristles. But as her handler the zoo lady only takes a firmer hold on her collar she forces herself to relax and stop acting on instinct. Focusing on what the two humans are saying she begins watching them more closely. A shot she thinks suddenly. They just gave my sister a shot. But then she wonders what a shot is and where the word came from.
The zoo lady listens as her two dogs talk to each other. The canine sounds and body language a mystery to her she can tell something was said to the male as he is suddenly very meek. Letting go of her two dogs she lets them interact with each other to make sure they will not mark up each others coats.
As Riley lifts up his muzzle and shows his throat to his mate Joanne with his tail tucked low the zoo lady smiles and pets both her dogs.
