Sitting on the floor next to the bathtub meant I had a good look at Molly's feet as they hung over the side of the tub. A good look as her toes began to lose form. Wait, surely that can't be right? I blinked and leaned closer until Molly's feet were practically in my face.
Sure enough, Molly didn't seem to have toes anymore; her feet were more like a flippers now. Then her toenails fell off.
"Molly! Your feet!"
"What?"
She opened her eyes, startled.
"What happened to my feet?!" Molly's voice was suddenly very afraid.
"I don't know. It must be some effect from whatever they injected you with."
"I better get to a hospital..."
"Yeah, that's probably a good idea."
"But the water's so nice..." she added, with sort of a dreamy tone to her voice.
You snapped your fingers in front of your girlfriend's face. "Earth to Molly - are you there?"
Molly shook her head. "Sorry. I just have this senstation of not wanting to get out of the water. It's like that feeling when you wake up under warm blankets when it's cold outside - you don't want to leave it."
"It may feel comfortable but we don't know what that injection will do." You grab a towel off a rack to hand to Molly, but she is having trouble standing up in the tub. You offer her a hand and she takes it, only to slip back down into the tub. You land on her and water splashes onto the floor.
With your soaking wet bodies pressed together, for the first time since you rescued her you get a little aroused (you'd managed to stay totally focused on the rescue and helping Molly up to now). You're just wearing shorts; you'd given your large shirt to Molly so she wasn't completely naked, but that was still the only thing she was wearing.
"Hey" you awkwardly manage.
Molly smiles back at you, your faces only inches apart. "Thanks for rescuing me from the carnival."
"I think we were getting you to a hospital. Not that I'm complaining. About being in a bathtub with you. But now's probably not the time."
Molly giggles. "But I can't stand up. And I'm not just saying that to keep you in the tub with me."
"Lets try getting you out of the tub first."
You climb out of the tub onto the floor, which is now wet from the splashing and you being soaking wet from the tub. The rug on the floor isn't going to be enough. You throw a towel down on the floor as well.
"Ready?"
Molly nods. You kneel down and manage to get your arms under Molly's body. She wraps her arms around you to help. You manage to lift her out of the tub, but with the wet floor you can't keep your balance and fall backwards on the floor with Molly on top of you.
"So you like the floor better than the tub?" she asks playfully.
"Well, it is a little more spacious..." you admit.
You both pull yourselves into a seated position on the floor, with Molly in your lap.
"Think you can stand now?"
"I'll try."
Molly braces herself with the tub and the counter. You try to push her up as well, but she only partially stands up before falling back into your lap.
"What's the problem?"
"My legs feel weak" explains Molly. "And I can't move my legs apart - it's like they're stuck together."
You both examine Molly's legs. Sure enough, her legs wont seperate. In fact, her legs and knees are starting to lose their definition, looking less like legs and more like a single appendange - a tail. Molly's feet also look mishapen, like they're flattening out.
"I'm..."
"You're..."
"...a mermaid."
You run you hand along Molly's leg...tail...whatever. She squirms a little in your lap.
"That tickles a little."
"Your skin doesn't feel the same. It's more like a dolphin." You notice the color is starting to darken as well, shifting from a flesh tone to more of a gray.
