John was in college majoring in business. He didn't know whether he wanted to be in a fraternity or not but he didn't think much
about it because it became very obvious that fraternities didn't want him. He was average and easily overlooked. He talked with
his roommate in the dorm about this on occasion.
Christmas was coming up. John also talked about having mixed feelings about spending time with his family. He felt like even his
family ignored him. He wasn't anything special.
One day, John's roommate Tom said, "I know how to fix your problems. There is a very exclusive and secret club. I'm a member
but other than the other members, no one even knows we exist. But I've already talked it over with them and they are willing to let
you join."
"What kind of club is it?" John asked.
"It's a magic club." Tom asked. "Every member of the club is able to do magic. The newer ones like myself can only do some magic
such as shape-shifting but the higher in rank you become, the greater magic you are given."
John asked, "Your lying. If such a club existed, it couldn't stay secret."
Tom said, "But with magic, we can keep it a secret. The top ranking members are quite powerful. If they wanted, they could rule
the world but they are much too happy partying and having fun to care what happens to the rest of the world."
John asked, "And you're just going to give me magic and let me join your club?"
Tom said, "Well, unfortunately, as part of joining you must first pay the price. If we just gave away magic, we could accidentally
give magic to someone who might try to take over the world or at least become a nuisance to the rest of us. So before you can
have any magic, we get to have some fun with you. Consider it like a fraternity initiation plebe but with magic. And it starts right
now. You'll have to tell me what it feels like to be . . ."
