It had been two years since his older brother had vanished, and James has been enrolled in college for 3
months. Perhaps because it was the last thing his brother gave him, perhaps because the fit so comfortably,
James is almost always wearing his bicycling shorts. John who has been transformed into those bicycle shorts
has all but given up hope that he'll be anything else.
"Hey, Thomas, how's it hanging?" James asked as he strode into his shared dorm room.
"I can see how you're hanging, James," Tom replied. Yes, it was the same Tom, but John didn't know that yet,

Ten minutes later he left John drip-drying in the shower, and went to study at his dorm room desk. Tom stepped

me more."
"Magic really does exist, but it comes at a price. Are you willing to pay that price?"
"Maybe? What is the price?"
"Your price is to be your brother's bicycle shorts."
"Funny! You know my brother John's been missing for 2 years now. He never came home for Christmas, and no
one's seen him since," there was anger and bitterness in his voice.
"Ah, but with magic, I can bring him back. In fact, you can bring him back, but you have to will yourself to
be his bicycle shorts. Just stand in this chalk circle," Thomas said as he drew on the floor, "And recite this
incantation," he added handing a slip of paper to James.
"You're serious?"
"Are you? Would you give up your humanity to bring your brother back?"
"For all I know he's sipping Pina Coladas in Mexico, and is quite happy."
"What if I told you he's closer than you think? What if I told you that you've been wearing him for the past
two years?" Tom said holding up the bicycle shorts.
"John?" incredulity and hope echoed as he spoke his brother's name.
"Read the incantation and find out!" Tom said triumphantly.
