"This is utterly unacceptable!" Yelled officer Harriette swatting the papers on the desk towards an old man wearing a rather old fashioned trenchcoat, inspired on the ancient movies. "You telling me there was an actual mistake?
"I'm afraid not, miss" He sighed taking out a cigar from his coat and litting it up. He was rather glad that he wouldnt die of lung cancer due to the progress that's been made of the last decades. Still, he shook his head and tapped the folder of papers the police officer ditched "Miss Allison hired me to take care of the loose ends, she had trust on his former lover, Mike. And this proves that... he was innocent"
Color faded from Harriette's face "I-I just made sure he carried out his sentence a month by now! It was supposed to be permanent. You have to be lying because i the change was permanent!"
"Allison hired me the moment he was accused, i'm an old acquaintance and i decided to make this case my top priority, my regret is that i've been too late to make the delivery..." He sighed opening the documents and beginning to explain "This is Jason Steele. He was in the club the night the victim was raped. Witnesses saw Mike and Allison share a couple of drinks with her and 2 other friends. After a while the two left... however the witnesses there affirm that Mike returned time later without Allison..."
"That's when he commited the rape, right?" Harriette asked, hoping he was wrong for the sake of her conscience.
He shook his head. "Allison's testimony states that Mike headed to the bathroom for a couple of minutes."
"And?"
"Unfortuantely, while there's no way to confirm that alibi There's a witness that got asked the time by the suspect. It marked the 10:45, the information has been verified to be on the right time. And..." He pulls out a paper with the testimony along with a digital picture which was used as evidence on the trial in which 'Mike' was seducing the friend "The times are the same, meaning that Mike was in two places at the same time..." He showed a picture of 3 minutes after where the two were leaving "Then he left out with the woman and took her to the alley where the sinister happened..." He made a pause before blowing some puffs of smoke.
"B-but... this is what eliminated Allison's testimony" she looked at the photos.
"Also, if you notice, there's a person that went in the bar but never came out" He said throwing in a picture of a man in his mid 40s "His name is Jason Steele, he's a registered rapist, locked in jail 20 years ago for the rape/murder of his neighbor as well as attempt of fleeing, before the permanent costume law was applied..."
"You're just throwing names to prove a case" Harriette muttered "What about the semen evidence?" She asked
"The evidence is easy to tamper with." He sighed "And in an age where we can practically be eternal thanks to the costumes. It's fairly easy to have criminals stumble upon this" he said placing some syringes on the table "'Mimics' when mixed with a piece of another human's DNA it can make one a copy of that person. I believe Jason had acquired some of Mike's dna, either saliva or hair, enough to seal the fate of the victim"
"You expect me to believe that? How come i havent heard anything about this?"
"Because it's the black market's darkest secret... And the effects are temporary so it's imposible to know that there are 2 of the same person."
Harriette's heart sank as she heard that "I-I'll need to test that..." She took a deep breath and picked up the syringes "This means we... I've destroyed a couple" she said feeling a pang of sadness. She was beginning to wonder if she was wrong.. should she call Allison and Amy? They would crusify her... would this mistake go out in public? She was starting to panic thinking in hypotheticals until the detective coughed "well, miss, i'll be on my leave and contact Allison" he said gathering the documents "Unless you wanna add an appology" He said glancing at her while heading towards the exit of the interrogation office.
