He sat in his room, reading the scroll again. Why were they forcing him to go through this pointless endeavor? He read the scroll, which was a letter from the Council:
"Dear Apprentice Kain,
We, the Almighty Wizard Council, have decided that your apprentice training has not progressed to the level we wish you to reach. You continuously fall behind in your studies, and regardless of which master we assign you to, you are not able to perform magic adequately. Every master we pair with you as a tutor becomes offended at your behavior or physically hurt from your magical blunders.
We have decided that you need first-hand experience in how to be a wizard, because conventional teaching has not made an effect on you. We will entrust you with a book of spells. You will go to Earth and remain there for an Earth month, practicing spells. At that time, a master will arrive and judge if you are worthy to return. If you are not accepted, you will remain for another month, until you are accepted.
We understand you will not enjoy this mission, but you must learn how to use magic correctly and for the power of good. We will look forward to hearing about your progress.
Sincerely,
The Almighty Wizard Council"
Kain felt like tearing the scroll up. A month in the human world? What a waste! It wasn't his fault he failed his Shapeshifting class! It wasn't his fault that his Disintegration spell accidentally hit Master Seryna's clothes, leaving her naked in front of all her students! All his masters were idiots anyways. They didn't teach him anything.
A knock came at his door. "Kain, dinner's ready." He threw the scroll to the far side of his room. "Coming, mother." He left his room. He had been in the human world for a few hours and he already hated it. The Council had given him two golems as parents; They were magically hardened shells of clay, molded into the shapes of humans, filled with magically fabricated souls. They were to be part of his disguise as he lived here, and they looked lifelike. He was to act like a normal human being that lived on Earth while he practiced his spells.
After dinner, he returned to his room and decided to look at the spellbook. There were so many spells he had yet to try. Tomorrow he began his day at school, where the students and teachers would be his test subjects. But what spell would he try to use?
