Floyde bit into the doughnut as Marianne disappeared into the
elevator. He was chewing his Krispy Kreme when he noticed a funny
taste. He knew how Krispy Kremes were supposed to taste. He made a
face and spit out the doughnut without swallowing. He grabbed his
coffee and took a swig. He swilled it around in his mouth and spit it
out.
"Damn, bitch, she tried to poison me! Probably a laxative or worse
yet maybe Viagra or Cialis!" he scratched behind his ear. He was
starting to itch terribly. Maybe he had swallowed some of it.
He looked down at the tainted doughnut and frowned. It had been a
real Krispy Kreme before she had tampered with it. He shook his head.
He didn't want to throw out all the doughnuts, but he couldn't chance
that she hadn't tainted all of them. Still. He smiled. He walked
across the alley and set the box on top of the trashcan. He didn't
like the bums that he was constantly chasing away from there, perhaps
Marianne's doughnuts would scare them away. He went back to his post
and realized the doughnut with one bite missing was still on his desk.
About ten minutes later, the Chinese Restaurant delivery boy showed
up.
"Got an order for Mary," he said.
"Wait a moment," Floyde ordered, "Let me pay for that, and I'll take
it up to her."
"Thanks for the tip! Mary never tips," he said as he headed back to
his car.
As soon as the delivery boy was gone, grateful for Floyde's generous
tip, Floyde opened the containers until he found the chop suey. He
broke up part of the tainted doughnut and stirred it into Mary's
chopsuey. Then he closed it up. Then he added a bit of the bread
crumbs to orange chicken and the broccoli beef. He was going to give
Mary some of her own medicine. He put everything back in the bag, and
phone Mary.
"Marianne, they just delivered your Chinese food. I've got it down
here at the desk," he answered.
"What? Why didn't you send him up with it?" Mary said in an irritated
voice. She looked down at the creme filled candy which she had
injected with some liquid from the frog vial. She had planned to give
it to the delivery boy - half the time he brought her food cold.
Then she blinked in surprise, "Floyde, did you enjoy your doughnuts?"
"Oh, they were delicious, I can't believe I ate every last one. Oh,
Stu's here. Stu cover for me will you. I'm going to take Marianne up
her lunch," he rambled, "Oh, I'll be up in a minute with your lunch."
Marianne blinked. She wondered what monstrosity would crawl, creep or
waddle out of the elevator. She could imagine the delivery boy
horrified at Floyde's transformed appearance and throwing the food on
his desk. Floyde didn't seem to have noticed he had changed. She was
surprised though that she hadn't heard Stu scream. She braced herself
for Floyde's appearance, and was visibly shocked when she saw Floyde's
usual beaming face and Pillsbury doughboy shaped body coming toward
her carrying the big paper bag.
Floyde belched as he set the bag down. He started to scratch his neck
and muttered, "Strangest thing, I'm suddenly itchy all over. Well,
thanks for the doughnuts."
Mary raised her eyebrow. He must be changing slowly. Perhaps mixing
that many vials caused a delayed reaction? She asked, "Wait, Floyde,
how much do I owe you?"
"Nothing, Marianne, it's the least I could do after you got me all
those doughnuts."
"Oh, well, that's sweet of you," Mary said glancing down at the
injected chocolate. Maybe she had used too little formula in the
doughnuts? She looked at the chocolate again, and said....
