Wes nearly panicked. There wasn't much time. If he got caught basically naked in the park, he would be lucky to get away. And stumbling around in the dark wasn't a good idea. He had no idea where he was or who was out there.
He quickly looked around and found a thick row of bushes that he could hide in. He'd wait until the first light of morning, early enough to see what he was doing and before people started to wake up. He at least might be able to find a blanket to cover up with!
He hunkered down in the piles of leaves trying to stay warm when he sensed some movement off to his side. His skin prickled. There could be a lot of wildlife in a park like this, and some of it might not be afraid of people...
He barely had time to consider that before he felt something warm and furry touch his hand. He drew it away quickly, but it was too late and he knew it. Almost instantly, Wes started to feel a strange, quesy feeling in his stomach. For a second, he though he was getting dizzy but he realized instead that he was getting smaller. There was no pain, but in moments he was sitting on his haunches amid the leaves, breathing hard, feeling the wind in his fur.
A few seconds later, a red squirrel hopped closer, and Wes suddenly knew who he was destined to be with for the rest of his life.
