About an hour later, Jake knocked on Ben’s door, deeply worried about his friend. Ben had sounded so odd and panicky on the phone.
“Who’s there?” Ben called from inside.
“It’s Jake. You okay in there?”
“Come inside, quick! The door’s unlocked!”
Jake opened the door and entered Ben’s apartment. He looked around and found Ben sitting on his couch. Jake walked over to the couch and
paused, looking at his friend. Something looked … wrong. Jake had always admired Ben’s sense of fashion, but today Ben looked ridiculous.
Though the clothes Ben was wearing looked fine by themselves, it all looked ridiculously oversized and baggy on Ben.
“Ummm … Everything okay, buddy?”
Ben looked up at Jake, his eyes beginning to tear up. “Everything okay? Okay? Look at me!”
“Um….” Jake wasn’t sure how to answer. He had always secretly crushed on Ben, but had been afraid to make a move. And aside from the
strange clothes Ben was wearing, he looked as hot as ever. “You look plenty fine to me, buddy!”
“Fine!? Fine!?” Ben said lifting his arms up and flapping the overlong sleeves on his sweater.
“Well, you may want to return those clothes of yours to ones more your size…”
“My size?” Ben looked at Jake straight in his eyes, and then laughed. “Jake, these are my size!”
Jake looked confused, and Ben couldn’t help but break character for a moment and smile. “I don’t understand,” Jake said.
Ben returned to his playacting. “These clothes fit me just fine earlier today. Heck, they were even pretty tight. But now … now…”
“They’re too big?” Jake offered.
“No,” Ben said, in a wounded voice. “I’m … too … small.”
Jake looked even more confused now, and Ben realized he had to spell it out, “Jake, I don’t know how it’s happening, but … I’m … I’m …
shrinking!”
“No … no … that’s imposs-”
But then, Ben stood up, and Jake gasped. Ben was usually a good 9 inches taller than him, but now he looked to be taller by maybe just an inch
or two.
“Impossible, Jake?! Look at me. Look….”
Suddenly, Ben tensed up, and Jake watched as Ben’s head dropped lower and lower. When it stopped, Ben was a couple inches shorter than
Jake!
“What are we going to do, Jake?” Ben asked, pleading.
