I woke up with the woman looking down at me. "What did you do to me!?!" I asked as I scrambled back.
"We just brought you into the Nexus," the woman said. "I am Hermione and this is Udoca."
I looked at the humanoid dragon woman as she nodded. I didn't trust these two seeing as how they kidnapped me and possibly
killed me somehow but I was a bit curious. "What's the Nexus?" I asked looking back and forth between the two.
"The Nexus is the place where all worlds meet," Udoca explained. "From here one can go to any world they choose. Even the world
you came from."
"What do you mean the world I came from?" I asked getting confused. If what they were saying was correct then of course the one
could go to my world since that's where they took me from.
"You came from a world different than the one you know," Hermione said with a note of sympathy in her voice. "The world you are a
part of now is only fiction in the world you came from. We refer to that world as the word-slinger world because authors in that world
tend to write about the other worlds thinking them to be fiction."
"So there are shifters in the word-slinger world too?" I asked not believing them one bit.
"There is very little magic in that world and it's all very subtle so there are no shifters there," Hermione said with a small laugh.
"Then I couldn't have come from that world since I've always been a shifter," I said folding my arms across my chest. I was sure they
couldn't come up with any argument to that.
Udoca shook her head and said, "We have to tell her the whole truth Hermione."
Hermione sighed and said, "You're right." She then looked me directly in the eye and said, "I know this will be tough for you to
believe right now but what I'm going to tell you is the truth. You have always been a shifter but at the same time you came from the
word-slinger world."
"How is that possible if there are no shifters there?" I asked with a little snort.
"Because Isis and Inari just about erased you from existence the last time you met them," Hermione explained. "When they tried you
were able to keep a small part of yourself from being erased and that part merged with the body you now have."
"I don't believe that," I said shaking my head.
"You have met Isis and Inari numerous times before," Udoca said. "One of those times has to have made it through. Do you
remember going to a magical school?" I shook my head and she asked, "How about being turned into a mannequin?" Again I shook my
head and she asked, "Do you remember being chased by a couple of guys and gutted when they caught you?"
"How did you know about my dream?" I asked surprised.
"Because it was a memory from one of the times you had been sent back to when you first arrived in the world you now know and
we have watched each and every one of them," Udoca said.
"How is that possible?" I asked.
"Because time has no meaning in the Nexus," Hermione said. "That is why you can't shift here and why Isis and Inari haven't come
here since their power would be useless here."
"So why did you bring me here?" I asked.
"We believe you might be part of a prophecy," Udoca said.
